Carmen told us that if there is only one tour, this is the one. We took off in the morning with four of her other guests, a Brazilian couple and two young Romanian women.
First Stop: Fuel. We were picked up at Carmen’s dock, then stopped at one of the docks. There was a lot of shouting to the guy there. He filled a tank with liter bottles of marine fuel. On our way out, we had a good look at “Old Bank,” the town on Bastimentos.

Second Stop: Dolphin Cove. We then headed to a place called Dolphin Cove. We traveled through mangrove swamps before arriving and seeing Dolphins. Other boats rushed to see the marine mammals whenever they surfaced.
Third Stop: Snorkeling and Refreshments. The corals and fish were beautiful. All different colors. Then to an island spot for something to drink.
Fourth Stop: Zapatillos Island. We headed out to sea to a national wildlife refuge that is also a popular swimming beach. It was crawling with people, mostly Panamanian. The waves were so strong where we swam, that one wave knocked us over.
Fifth Stop: Sloths. Heading back into the mangrove swamps, we went to an island that was loaded with sloths. There are no natural predators here, and they can’t leave the island. Best slothing ever!
Last Stop: Starfish. We stopped by a tiny island with just a few mangroves on it. When we looked in the water, there were beautiful starfish of red and orange.
Takes one’s breath away.
