Mary asked for more details on living arrangements. I didn’t really take many photos of the first two situations. But here is a quick briefing:
You got to see the Mejia house in the Christmas post.
Richard’s apartment was quite roomy, had 2.5 baths, and a nice kitchen (albeit without an oven). By far the nicest part of this place was the views.
The biggest downside of the place was that it is on the fourth floor of an old office building. The building, as are most large buildings in old Cuenca, is built around a courtyard, with the doctor, dentist, and lawyer offices opening to the balconies. Most of the courtyards have been covered with transparent roofs now, so there is plenty of light. The problem is that is took 7 keys to open all of the locks to get to the apartment – front door, each floor, and three for his apartment doors. They needed to be done in order, and one had to be done from the opposite side.
Last Wednesday we moved to the del Parque Hotel. It is an old-school place on a corner overlooking Parque Calderon. In other words, the location doesn’t get much better.
We need to walk to the third floor to get to the opening of the courtyard.
The courtyard area is common for all guests, and is quite pleasant (I am there now).
We’d seen rooms before we booked, and this was a bit of a bait and switch. The rooms we saw were huge with balconies overlooking the park. Our room is a bit smaller, but quite comfortable none-the-less.
And how about that key. Must be original –
It looks lovely!! Happy 2016 to you and ellen?
Lovely to see how people live! Hope you are enjoying your adventures. It looks like it in spite of a rough spot or so!
Happy New Year
Love the turquoise paint throughout! Absolutely appropriate and beautiful! Your mom is trying to create a choir in a building full of 90 year olds. I’d say, it may sound like herding cats!
Steve and Ellen …….Gretchen Maring sent me this blog, but I can’t figure out how to access others on a regular basis. You are probably so very busy, but it would be fun to follow this adventure of yours so would appreciate help in accessing it. Thanks
