Kareem’s barbecue is ranked the #5 restaurant on Caye Caulker by TripAdvisor. He has a few grills set up just before The Split. It is pretty good, or as they say on Kareem’s sign, “unbelizeable,” and not expensive. A few random shots:

On/In the Water with the Caveman
We had planned our snorkeling adventure with Caveman Tours (Caveman pictured above) on Tuesday. Tuesday and Wednesday had winds of 21 and 24 knots respectively. We opted for waiting until a calmer day. Our first stop was to feed the Tarpons. Next we were lucky enough to see a manatee. They can stay underwater for […]
Jans Hotel
Jan’s Hotel was simple, but nice. There was a bed, table, chairs, mini-fridge, and bathroom. The water pressure was great. They had water to refill your water bottles. And they had a golf cart to take us to the airport. Looking north and south early in the morning.
Stingrays
The Iguana Reef Inn is probably the most luxurious resort on the island. It’s very nice, but not sure I’d call it luxury. There were a lot of Brits there. Every day at 4:00, they feed the stingrays. They also through fish into the air, and pelicans swoop down.
Western Sunset at Maggie’s
Not surprisingly, the best places to see sunsets are on the Western shore. There are plenty of restaurants. This night we chose Maggie’s. When we arrived, all of the picnic tables on the deck had been taken. We were seated in the back. The owner asked us why we were there, to which we replied […]
Bliss Beach
We were supposed to go snorkeling on this day. There were 21 knot winds, so we chose to push it out. Instead we went to Bliss beach on the north Island. I’d read about it somewhere so we headed out to The Split (the northern tip of the south island). We got tickets and Harry […]
Ice n Beans
We made our first stop of the day at Ice n Beans, a nearby Coffee, smoothie, ice cream, and various breakfast kinds of food. We were greeted with a shot of iced coffee when we entered. It was here that we met Thomas, a retired Swedish teacher, who became our first travel friend. Look closely […]
Belizeable
It’s our first time in Belize. Direct Sun Country flight from MSP, only 4 and a half hours. Took a taxi to Belize City. They’re extending the runway to handle bigger jets. In hindsight, this was not surprising, given the number of visitors we met from around the world. US, Canada, Mexico, Sweden, Netherlands, Austria, […]
Panama Farewell
This picture is the pair of shorts that gave up the ghost on this trip. They wore through in several places. On one hand it was disappointing to leave them, as they mad a great fashion statement when worn with colorful boxers. Here are some final thoughts: Education – Panama has one of the worst […]
Carmen’s Place
There are innkeepers, and there is Carmen. Carmen and Marcel moved to Bastimentos from the Netherlands three years ago, and got this Caribbean inn. Most of the lodgings are on the water. Guests are delivered via water taxi. They are called by flying a red flag at the end of the dock. Carmen is a […]
