One of the great joys of travel is running into a “relative separated at birth.” We aren’t sure if Lisa is Ellen’s daughter or sister from a previous life, but ever since running into her looking for the same restaurant in Evora, Portugal, there has been a connection.
This connection was strengthened when she and her partner Ben invited us over to Cambridge. They have a sweet little flat on Cavendish Road, plenty of wine and gin, great food (including the sausages from the local butcher shop), and hospitality to burn.
You have already seen the posts on punting, Ely cathedral, and Audley End. We also spent some time in Cambridge. This included walking to an old cemetery, biking around town, walking around the University area, and getting our hairs cut (the last time was in Cartagena, Columbia).
Cambridge is a lovely city (I’m trying to be a bit more British by using the word “lovely” more often, vs. “amazeballs.” It is, however, suffering from a huge increase in traffic. Traffic jams are the norm as more people move in, more people have cars, and nothing is done to improve the infrastructure.
It is also a very interesting time to be here given the impending “Brexit” referendum. We would hear people walking down the street discussing it. To be honest, it seems like the issues are becoming as confused as things are in the U.S. Each side accuses the other of lying and obfuscation. Each side uses the facts that fit their position, conveniently forgetting the other. No one is sure which way it’s going to go, but either in or out, the EU will not be the same.

Loved seeing this glimpse of Cambridge. Thank you.
