When I visited the floating market 45 years ago, it was an actual market, used by Thai people. In 1974 it was featured prominently in “The Man With the Golden Gun.” Popularity with tourists increased. Also, back then, many people’s homes were not connected by land, and boat was the only way to get to the market.
We didn’t see many Thai shoppers, even though we were assured that on a Sunday, that’s when the Thais would be there.
Made friends with Belgian and Israeli couples.
It was fun to see how the long-tail and row boats managed each other. We’ve been told, you just look forward and don’t worry about what’s behind you.
