Door County in the Autumn

We went over to Door County to see my mom and to enjoy the fall colors.  The drive over was nice, we many trees in full bloom.  We had a killing frost Saturday night, so it probably pushed the remaining straggling trees over the edge.

We got there on Wednesday in time to attend the Emily Dickenson night at the UU church.  This is the same group at which my mom was the featured poet several months ago.  For October the guest of honor is the current Wisconsin Poet Laureate Kimberly Blaeser.

We were treated to her infectious high energy and poems.  In addition, 25 local poets participated in the open microphone, reciting their poems.

We were graciously offered a bed at the home of our friend Liz.  She and her husband Jack built the home about 15 years ago and it is a work of art, skill, and passion.  Sitting on a point of land overlooking Lake Michigan, the home has views of the water from 270 degrees.  The pictures tell the story better than words.

It was the Sister Bay Fall Festival on the weekend, so the whole town was getting ready Thursday and Friday.  For the most part we were able to avoid the crowds.

All and all it was a great trip, including, (but not limited to), the pancake the size of Lake Michigan at the Sandpiper Restaurant Saturday morning.
