On Friday afternoon we finally went fishing. There had been a series of weather delays and assorted issues, but we made it out onto the water. Our guide was Danny, and the boat owner was Juan.
We high-tailed it out to a bunch of islands and rocks soutwest of Manuel Antonio. I had asked Danny how many excursions came home empty handed as we were heading out. His response was that with live bait, none.
We got there, they baited the lines, and within a minute, Marlene was pulling in an over 10 pound Jack… We didn’t really get the name. It was thrown back as it wasn’t good eating.
After that, we settled in to catching Snappers and almost catching Barracuda. The latter have really sharp teeth, and were fond of taking the bait, then cutting the line as we were pulling them up.
We ran out of bait fish after a bit, so we went closer to shore to try to catch a few more. They were able to get about 10.
We headed back out. This is when I caught a big snapper.
We headed back in after blowing through the rest of the bait.
The fish was brought to a local eatery, where we had the big one prepare. The guides said the big one would be the tastiest. In hindsight, I don’t buy it. It was quite tough and rubbery.
We ran into Annie and Paul, the couple who had been helping us out at Kevin’s, at the restaurant, and they joined us for dinner.

So enjoying your postings and photos! If you have any recommendations on the best family-friendly resorts, etc. in Costa Rica, let me know. We’re hoping to head that way in April.
