Happy Birthday StevenEllen.com

1 Year Anniversary of the Blog!

7 Month Anniversary of Departing the Twin Cities!

Last year on the 11th of May we made the first post on www.stevenellen.com.  It was an exciting time as we were psyched about moving to South Africa to join the Peace Corps, preceded with a bit of travel to see friends and check out South America.

Our initial inspiration was the Peace Corps’ Third Goal – to teach Americans about other cultures.  As you all know, the Peace Corps didn’t work out as planned.  The seeing friends and travel to South America did, albeit in somewhat different forms.

5 Months after we started the blog, we left the Twin Cities on our “excellent adventure.”  As Steve’s mom said, “you’ve sold your place, found a home for Mac, the kids are launched – you need an adventure.”

Now, 1 year, 169 posts, more than 3500 images, 341 viewer comments, and 59 subscribers later, here we are.

Thanks to everyone who’s been following.  It’s been the ride of a lifetime.

  1. I have traveled vicariously with you on your Great Adventure and have loved every minute of it. I look forward to continuing to follow you on your travels. You have taught us a lot about countries we should all know about in our hemisphere. Thank you.

  2. I read every one – some with envy and some with horror (one word – appendicitis!) and all with love as I follow your ride of a lifetime. I miss you both, and know this has been challenging in many ways. So very proud of you both!

  3. We admire your adventurous vision…..and we also envy the result……in spite of surgery and off-day!
And especially, thank you for sharing terrific photos and insightful words.

  4. I’ve been enjoying your posts and have been living vicariously. Missed your Kentucky Derby gathering–didn’t even watch it this year.

    • What troopers you have been! Your blogs have taken me with you every step of the way and how I’ve enjoyed that. It made the winter far jollier in chilly Wisconsin. Thank you, thank you. Mom
