By now it’s the 2nd of the new year, and you’re probably waking up. Nonetheless, Happy New Year!
We started the evening with a sunset. It just doesn’t ever get boring.
There is a tradition here at Journey’s End, that we are all (staff and guests) invited to the landlord’s place across the street for a big New Year’s Eve party. There was food, karaoke, dancing, and drinking. Ellen and I left early, but we heard it go on until woken by the fireworks at midnight.
Postcard From Ellen
The International dance group is why women should rule the world! Thai, Italian, USA, Austria and Belgium, we were all ages and we would dance the troubles away! [ I wish!} okay is everyone ready for Ellen’s post cards? I’m getting rather pent up with emotion. If you aren’t, reply and I’ll send separately, maybe teasing, I don’t know how to do that.
First, I’d like to say, I feel so privileged to be doing this. I thank my art major husband , who also had a knack for computers for helping this trip along. To think, my Dad who said he was worried that Steve had to much wanderlust to be good husband when I told him we were getting married almost 45 years ago. He, {my dad who sailed the world for 8 years}! My mom just said, marry who makes you laugh at the end of the day!
But, I am going through some stuff about retirement. I am discovering that I ask a lot of questions that I think are normal and not everyone else does! So how do I talk to people? We have only met one other USA couple this whole time. Most are German, thank fully they speak English, Dutch, Belgium, Austrian! And of course Australians and Brits. Was I ever good at small talk?
Anyway Happy New Year Everyone, I miss you all.
Retirement is a different dimension, and we crash into it without training or even a QuickStart guide. This trip of yours is a fantastic way to bridge from employment to retirement. You just keep moving forward, like you always have, and you will be happy you are finally there. Your usefulness and expertise are not diminished, just how they are used will be different.
Enjoy your odyssey like I’m enjoying following along and getting postcards. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
