To the tune of Home on the Range”
Oh let me be homeless,
With the buffalo on the road,
And the elk and the antelope play…
It took us a bit to get out of Red Lodge. As it turns out, there are two Cenex stations. So the bridge after the Cenex is actually the bridge after the second Cenex station. The Beartooth Pass is already closed, so we took an alternate route. It was spectacular.
We headed out of town and went south towards Cody, Wyoming. We turned west on the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway.
After a picnic lunch, we made it to Cooke City close to the eastern entrance to Yellowstone. Shortly after entering the park, we came upon a herd of bison. It was very exciting! Then we came upon more and more and more. I think it would be safe to say we have seen more bison today, than previously in our entire lives. It is fantastic!
We also saw elk, including the ones at Mammoth. Eventually, we made it to West Yellowstone.
Not only were the bison a high point for today, but the colors were as well. It is autumn. The grasses are yellow and tan. The trees are green. The sky was as blue as I have ever seen.

Be sure you look at the stars! Fabulous out int the wild. A personal favorite of mine.
De ja vu! We also spent a couple days in Grand Teton and Yellowstone on our way back from Eugene, OR. Have you already been to Eugene? Do you have family there? We were out there for Alese’s wedding.
