So Ellen didn’t let me talk at first. But she made it up to me. At 11:50 that morning, she brought me an ice cold Panama beer. Morning beer. Nice.
We are staying a the Las Lajas Beach Resort. The bus let us off at Las Cruces de San Felix (San Felix Crossing) on the Trans-american Highway. The little town of Las Lajas is about 2 kilometers away. The beach is another 10. We hopped in a pickup truck taxi, and I’m glad it was. He took back roads, as we had to drop of another passenger, an indigenous woman. The roads were a bit tough.
Made it to the “resort” at about 7:30. Checked in, had dinner. It was nice. A big room, nothing fancy. Once again, we don’t flush toilet tissue, rather throw it in the nearby trashcan. Shades of South America.
We met Peter, the owner tonight. The place is for sale. He’s built it over the last 10 years. He says it’s for sale. But everything in Panama is always for sale.
The rooms are nice and big. There are murals on the walls. The bathroom has two sinks, and one of the cold water faucets even works. Nobody will ever complain about the size of the shower.
The ambiance is very friendly, not high-end, but nice. The food is decent. The drinks are cheap (a Panama beer is $1.50 vs. $6.00 in Panama City). Best of all, they have Diplimatico. This is the rum that ourAirBnB host’s spouse turned us on to in Cartagena. Sipping rum. Amazing.
There will be other posts on the amazing beach and sunsets. Kevin, our tour guide in Panama City said “the best sunsets in Panama.” I’m inclined, given my limited exposure to Panama sunsets, to agree.
All in all, a great place to relax, listen to the waves break, and get down on your pent up reading. We met some interesting people. Lots of families, both Panamanian, and American.
Thanks for updates – enjoy those sunsets!
PS – I like Ellen’s ssssshhhh request 😉
This looks wonderful. Your blog is always so fun to read.
