We ended the tour with a iconic “long-tail” boat ride through some of Bangkok’s canals. For those who aren’t familiar, these boats have huge motors in the back with propellor shafts that extend about 8 feet past the stern of the boat.
The area we toured is considered a poor neighborhood. A room starts at about $50/month. It’s where many laborers coming from the countryside live. As can be expected, there are wealthier people coming in to get the lower cost real estate and building mcMansions. There are also temples dotted throughout.
There are locks on either end, managing the tides coming in from the river. Only 6 long-tails fit within the lock, so it can be a waiting game to get through, especially with how popular this has become.
Great pictures! I am enjoying your journey! Just had my hair done at Deborah’s!
