Here are a few of the high-points of our recent trip to Martha’s Vineyard:
Ellie and Jack
Quite clearly two of Ellen and my favorite people. Ellie and Jack demonstrate a joi de vivre that can only be described as inspirational. They are exceptional hosts, having opened their home to Ellen and me on several occasions. They are engaging and open with their thoughts and humor. They are knowledgeable, about everything from “island life” to world events. Most important, they live life to its fullest. I don’t know many eighty-somethings who would buy a vintage cruiser to take from the New York finger lakes to Martha’s Vineyard (although they may have occasionally questioned their choice).
Mark and Aimee
We had never really spent much time with Mark and Aimee before. They are cousins of Ellen who live in Portland, Maine. They also have started Africa Schoolhouse, an organization that builds schools and clinics in Tanzania. We were able to spend several hours chatting, and hope to see them in several years in Tanzania.
Flowers and Foliage
Green is the color of Martha’s Vineyard. There are occasional splashes of color from flowers, both wild and domestic. There was a particular dogwood blooming. The entire island was lush with vegetation.
Food
Let us just say, we ate fairly well. Whether sitting on the old fishing equipment at Larsen’s Fish Market, to the dinner at the Home Port Restaurant, dining out was a treat. Jack was also quite handy in the kitchen whipping up Blue Fish and Scallops.
Boats
Last but not least, we were on and by the water. There were ferries ridden. Vineyard Haven is full of beautiful classic boats.
fun to see your Vineyard pictures and comments. Thought about you all when the tragedy occurred in Charleston.
