It is Thanksgiving this day, not that you’d notice in Thailand. In honor, and absent any evidence of turkey and stuffing, we decided to do a Thai cooking school.
We also couldn’t help but hear the screams and cries of children during recess at the school next door.
Chang Mai
Our hotel was located across the street (and moat) from the old walled city of Chang Mai. We found a great breakfast place, “Stories,” that we visited every morning.
The School Next Door (and Down 5 Stories)
As mentioned earlier, the shrieks of joy echoed up to our room. So did the instructors shouting orders to the students. We weren’t sure of all that was going on, but it’s a different style of teaching.
Happier time during recess.
Thai Cottage Home Cookery School
We were picked up in a Songtaew, pickup truck taxi, and taken to the market. Emma, our teacher walked us through the various Thai ingredients.
We were given lists to pick the recipes we wished to cook. Here is the cookbook.
Here are the results:
Chicken in coconut milk soup
Sweet sunset, cooking facility, and organic herb garden
We took anoth Songtaew back to the hotel.
Night Bazaar
We were stuffed from the cooking class, and still hadn’t scored any elephant pants. So obviously, we took a songtaew to the night bazaar. It was very nice. A permanent structure with live music, boxing (we were told, didn’t see it ourselves), and ladyboys. We did see some of the latter, but I didn’t want to take pictures.
Yes, we did find our elephant pants, and a few other items as well.
