Olon is the place on the beach that we like the most. It is walkable from the house, although 3-4 miles on the beach.
It is a sea of tranquility, particularly as the closest town to the north of Mantanita.
There are a bunch of tiendas (small stores) located throughout, many small hostels and hotels, restaurants, a town square, and church. The beach is lovely, with a row of beach restaurants, and in front of them rows of cabanas. For $5 you can get a cabana with chairs for the day.
We were referred to a place called Gracielita’s by Don Colon in Cuenca for the Arroz con Camerones. This is generally served with patacones, which are smashed and fried plantains. It was great:
We met up with our Swedish friend Regina for lunch, then hung out at the beach. If you look really closely at this picture, you can see a dog peeing on Regina’s towel. Then he walked away.
The beach is full of surfers, and families, many from Ecuador. We walked home to a lovely sunset.
This looks fantastic!! Would like to be there right now. Also hearing Espanol everywhere sounds fun.
Lovely – would love to come visit!!

forget the peeing dog and remember the girl with the red top, sun glasses and provocative smile…
