Orange Peel Bakery

As we were returning with Bob and Pam from a day of activities, we decided to check out the Orange Peel Bakery.

We had passed the sign for the bakery several times already, as it is on the main drag not far from Ellie and Jack’s place.  Always on the prowl for potential delicacies, this seemed a logical place to stop.  We were in for a treat.

Juli Vanderhoop is the proprietor and baker.  Most of her wares are baked in the outdoor oven built with local stones.

Turns out, the NY Times had just been by to do a photo essay.  The coolest thing, though, is that she hosts “pizza night” every Wednesday night during the summer.  She makes the crust and people bring toppings to share.

In the spirit of community, Juli is building on a long tradition of community cooking and dining.  Ellie tells us that the event is so popular that the police need to direct traffic along the State Road while it is going on.
