Phnom Penh

After Koh Chang and Siem Reap, Phnom Penh has been a bit of a shock to our systems. It is a fast-growing metropolis of about 2.4 million. Before the Khmer Rouge, it was about 2 million. It was less than 100 thousand after.

Phnom Penh After Dark –

We met up with Sherri and Marty at the Phnom Penh Raffles, a colonial institution. They lived here for 5 years in the early 2000’s doing work for the State Department. Though they’ve been back, they were amazed by the development going on.

Raffles –

Coming in to town, we passed dozens of housing developments, each with fancy, often gated, entrance, and extending for blocks each. Often they would border agricultural land.

We were fortunate to accompany Sherri and Marty to the restaurant of one of the street kids they “quasi” adopted 20 years ago. It is a huge success story. And the food was great.

Last night we treated ourselves to a fancy French restaurant. It was fantastic –
