Postcard: October 18th, the Adventure Begins!

Finally we are heading to Theodore  Roosevelt State Park.  Steve just couldn’t let go of this being our first destination heading west.  I was all for camping in August, but October.  So I am thinking walking, drive by touring and a nice hotel room tonight!

It has been exactly 3 months since I retired.  What changes we have embraced.  At first the shock was overwhelming.  The dominoes we had planned were independent of each other standing alone, but all part of the excellent adventure plan.  Most fell nicely into place, but the health one has been a detour we did not expect.  They say you retire and the first year is often a series of medical issues.  Well I didn’t hear that before retirement.  At any rate I am glad we found the issue and it seems to be normalizing.  My bones should be better in a year and I feel Great!

I want to thank all our friends and family who have taken us in during the past two months of “homelessness”!  We are very grateful and fortunate to have such a great community.  We are also very fortunate to not have to have a new plan immediately. Letting go of the Peace Corps has been a challenge.  It was a very focused and secure plan as well as exciting and meaningful.  We need time to redirect ourselves.

Thus the Ellen and Steve Excellent Adventure begins!!!!

p.s. The title picture was taken by me.

  1. I am enjoying these entries enormously. Your personalities come through strongly in your writing style, plus the journey itself is pulling me in. Keep driving and writing !
