Red Rock Afternoon

We invited Don and Toni to join us for a hike at Red Rock to be followed by a glass of wine at the Inn of the Seventh Ray.

Red Rock is a somewhat hidden area in Topanga.  Getting you to the trailhead involves rough fire roads (especially when driving in a Porsche Panamera), typical Topanga roads (barely more than one lane), and a general knowledge of where you’re going.

The hike itself is on a fire road. This was proven by our meeting a fire truck halfway up the road.  The fire department practices driving on the roads around here, as they can be tricky for a fire truck.

A unique feature of the hike is the sedimentary rock that has been pushed up and eroded.  In addition, the first half of the walk is almost constant uphill.  This, of course, makes the second half easier, if you like walking downhill.

We have great fun with Toni and Don, and it was a good walk, with great conversation and laughter.

Upon completing the walk, we headed over to the Inn of the Seventh Ray.  This restaurant is a Topanga institution.  It is the kind of place where it would be quite politically incorrect to disparage things like vegan, crystals, vegetarian, psychic energy, and organic.  It is where Ellen’s brother Tim proposed to Amy.  It is a beautiful location along Topanga creek.

Toni and Don had a coupon and we were hoping to use it.  We got there at about 4:45.  There were no customers, but for a couple doing a wine tasting.  We sat for a bit.  No one came to serve us.  I went and asked in the kitchen.  They said just a minute.  Ten minutes later, we left and went to the Canyon Bistro.  Where we were served right away.
