Russian River Brewery

We left Cloverdale and headed south on the 101.  A quick text let Blakey know we were on our way.

When she found out we were going to be passing through Santa Rosa, the call went out for “Pliny the Elder.”  It is a craft beer brewed by the Russian River Brewing Company that has developed quite a following.  The number of bottles to buy are limited, and it has become quite desirable.

From their website:

Pliny the Elder is brewed with Amarillo, Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe hops. It is well-balanced with malt, hops, and alcohol, slightly bitter with a fresh hop aroma of floral, citrus, and pine. Best enjoyed FRESH! That is why we make it in such limited supply. Actual bottling date is printed on each bottle!

Even though it was only shortly past 11:00, the place was hopping (pardon the pun).  We shared a flight, and it was pretty good.  We especially enjoyed the “Great Beer / Great Wine” brew.  The brewmaster grew up on a vineyard.  When the harvest is going on, the pickers like to drink beer.  This was a very refreshing draft designed especially for them.  We ended up buying a growler, along with some Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig, another IPA that reminded me of Summit.
