The Boynton Chapel

The Boynton Chapel is at the end of a beautiful lea that opens to Lake Michigan on the grounds of Bjorklunden.  This small wooden chapel was handcrafted in the late 12th-century Norwegian stave church (stavkirke) style by Winifred and Donald Boynton between 1939 and 1947.  Bjorklunden was, at that time, their summer estate.  The chapel is modeled after the Garmo stave church at Maihaugen in Lillehammer, Norway.

This was where we had the small memorial service for my father two years ago.

I wasn’t able to get inside for pictures during this trip.  Feel free to check out Lawrence University Boynton Chapel or Boynton Chapel Images if you’d like to see more.
