Trat

We flew from Vientiane to Don Muoang (the “Old”) Airport in Bangkok. Made our way to lodging, and it wasn’t much. But hey, $30 per night in Bangkok. Had dinner on a rooftop restaurant.

The next day we took the MRT to Chatuchak Weekend Market and did some shopping. Pete and Lek showed up. We walked to a restaurant, and it was closed for a private party. We ended up going to a Korean barbecue, and it was pretty good.

The next day we headed to Trat, our jumping off point for the ferry to Koh Chang. Unfortunately, we had a minor accident on the way out of Bangkok, but Pete was able to keep us safe. The other guy ran into our rear, and clearly got the worst of it.

Turns out Lek’s best friend lives near Trat.

After watching the sunset at our lodging, we headed out for dinner with Air (sp?), her husband, son, and mother-in-law. It was a great seafood spot right on the water.

Dinner ended because Air and husband needed to go harvest rubber sap from their rubber grove. This is done during the middle of the night when the sap is running best. It is done seven times each year, and they make some nice pocket change from it. Thailand is the largest exporter of raw rubber by far. Here are what rubber plantations look like.
